Eddy Great Dane Young Male for sale in Manassas, Virginia

Eddy's story
Eddy is a gorgeous neutered male Merle. He has a lot of brown in him so could be classified as a chocolate merle but he is adorable no matter what we want to call him. He was brought into rescue when he was found in a home with a deceased owner and the shelter contacted the rescue. There is no information on his age but the 2 vets he has seen has estimated between 1-3. His foster (without the advice of a vet) would have guessed him to be less than a year. He came into rescue with a positive snap test done for lymes. He has been on treatment for the last month and will be adoptable as soon as his recheck is complete. He was also very underweight. He is displaying no signs of lymes and has fattened up quite nicely.
He is on the smaller size and about 30 inches at the withers. He currently weighs 95lbs.
Eddy is ALL puppy. He is crate and house trained but did have the occasional pee-pee accident when he was first placed in foster care. We assume it was because he was left with no place to relieve himself and it became a habit. He has since been retrained and we are happy to say there have been no accidents in weeks!!! YAY Eddy. He is super sweet with anything on 2 feet. Because of his puppy-like behavior we are still recommending he go to a home with older children or children that are used to giant breeds.
Eddy cannot be trusted during the day to free roam. He is currently left in his dog room with 2 other playmates and does fine. He is not crated during the day when left alone but will lay in his open crate with the bed. If left out Eddy is inquisitive and will get into trouble. He is a counter surfer (mom is working on that) and will dig in the recycle for cans of anything (dog food.ravioli.etc) and drag them all over the home. His foster put a lockable lid on the can and he cant do it anymore, but he is a super smart guy and will try just in case. He has NOT gone into the regular trash can even with no locking lid. He DOES know his boundaries.he sometimes doesnt care. He knows he is not allowed in the kitchen but if food is out he will go in without hesitation and get it. He is a dog park kind of Dane AFTER training. Right now, he is very food motivated and will listen for food but not much else. He does not have recall ability unless it is time to feed and will only listen when he wants to. He is not a bad dog at all.he just needs a lot of reinforcement on his basic commands and someone who will set a line and not give in. He knows how to open most baby gates and will jump the lower ones. He does not however jump on people.
Eddy is a ball of energy and would make an excellent outdoor LEASHED running partner. Eddy continues to play a tad rough and is easily excited. He is not aggressive at all but does get mouthy when playing. He would be fine as an only dog and would be OK if placed with a laid back larger dog that can tolerate his zeal. Eddy is currently fostered with a 3-year-old male Boxer and a 7 year old female Dane. Eddy is a super sweet cuddler and LOVES to be next to his human. He is a licker and shows love by nuzzling his head into you when he is getting pet.
He will need a firm hand and may be fitted with a home with giant breed experience, a large fenced in yard with large dogs in the home or a very active home with no dogs.
Eddy will be adopted with a training addendum. Eddy came into rescue December 2017 (5)

Guess who is off medical holdthats right. EDDY! He has finished his medication and continues to show no signs of Lymes. The vet said he will continue to show positive on a snap test for exposure for at least a year but there is no medical intervention that needs to happen (other than monitoring him in case he ever displays signs of Lymes).
Eddy has adjusted well to his foster home. He continues to be ALL puppy doing the puppy-like behavior we all know and love. Eddy is a dog park and doggy day care kind of Dane. He loves to play, loves all animals but plays a tad too rough for the little ones. He is mouthy when playing; however, never aggressive. Just a 100lb goof that loves to run. We have been working on fetching. He is great at going to get the ball (although he prefers sticks) but still working on the returning. He is completely house trained and crate trained and will go into his crate by simply saying go to bed.
He is honestly the most affectionate Dane his foster family has hosted. He LOVES to give kisses and will cuddle in your lap, against your legs, laying at your feet etc. He is a family Dane and loves children. He does have the normal puppy inquisitiveness and doesnt know his size so we are recommending no babies at this time. He also has no history with small children so will not be placed with any.
Eddy will make an excellent addition to an almost any home but an active home to burn off puppy energy would probably be best. He will require a large fenced yard due to his energy level.
